Frequently Asked Questions

Great logos have 6 common traits:

  1. Communication: keep it simple by communicating one or two ideas at most. Trying to say too much in a logo is a rookie mistake.
  2. Distinct: your logo must be unique and recognizable. It shouldn't look like it came from a stock photo site.
  3. Versatility: logos need to be visible at small sizes and work just as well in monotone as they do in color. If your logo can't be carved into a piece of wood, it's not versatile enough.
  4. Abstraction: professional logos suggest an idea, whereas amateur logos literally depict it. Think of the Nike Swoosh and how it suggests movement, or how the Under Armour logo subtly depicts a U and A.
  5. Typography: fonts should match the mood of your brand and complement any accompanying graphics.
  6. Color: only uses 2-3 colors at most, and they should abide by color theory. Shades that oppose each other on the color wheel are a good start.

Revisions are changes and alterations that we can make to the logo designs we present you. For example, if you wanted to try different colors, different fonts, or alter a graphical element, that would count as one revision round.

You can make multiple changes in a single round of revisions. Pricing packages that come with unlimited revisions allow you to make as many revisions as needed to perfect your logo to your liking.

Vector graphics are the editable source files for your logo. They allow you or another designer to edit your logo down the road if the need should ever arise.

The benefit of using vector graphics is that, unlike pixel-based imagery, vectors can be scaled up infinitely without quality loss, making them a versatile and dynamic format. For example, if you ever need to render a large copy of your logo — let's say for a billboard or vehicle wrap — the vector copy can be used to generate that.

Read our guide about vector graphics to learn more about the common vector formats and vector editing software.

Monotone variations are alternate copies of your logo in both all black and all white. They are the simplest, most versatile versions of your logo and are often used in the following contexts:

  • Window decals
  • Watermarks
  • Embroidery
  • Color-independent merchandise (for example, carved into a wood cutting board)
  • When grouped with other company logos (trade show banners and promotional media, for example)
  • Black & white letterheads
  • Storefront signs

A brand style guide is the official documentation for your logo and all of its design properties. It serves as a blueprint for how your brand should look, feel, and communicate across all mediums, ensuring that everyone working on your brand — from designers to marketers — is on the same page.

Your logo sets the tone for your branding, so we provide style guides to help you maintain consistency and present a cohesive, professional appearance on your website, social media, merchandise, and more.

Style guides include information such as:

  • Color codes and pantones used in your logo
  • Fonts used and text stylings for headers, sub headers, and body text
  • Best practices for using the different variations of your logo
  • Examples of how they are applied in context

A brand style guide is a convenient resource that you can share with other members of your team to ensure that everyone is on the same page. You can learn more about style guides and see an example of one here.
